Zimbabwe Democracy Now

The Zimbabwe government and all Zimbabweans made an agreement, a signed agreement to abide by the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2004). A rigged election is unacceptable under this agreement.

What is Vote Rigging?

Forging, tampering with, or fraudulently altering the voters roll in any way

Using voter registration certificates illegally issued after 14 February 2008 (after registration closed)

Forcing someone to vote for anyone other than the candidate of their choice

Voting in more than one polling station

Changing any election result in any way - before, during or after counting

Stuffing ballot boxes with prepared papers

Stealing or hiding ballot boxes

Voting more than once via postal ballots

Bribing people with food

Putting the special voting ink in soap or vaseline to stain people’s hands

Voting under orders from a superior officer

Recording ‘votes’ using the names of dead people, absent voters or non-citizens.

We know Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF will try to rig our election. We know the techniques they are using and we know that individuals within the police, army and civil service are helping with vote rigging. This is illegal!

We are asking Zimbabwean patriots to report - in secret and in safety - any instances of vote rigging that they witness.

We have reward money for the first 40 people who ‘blow the whistle’ on vote riggers in the 2008 election. We will need proof of rigging, names, dates and places - all the information and details that we can use to challenge rigged results.

We are determined that this election should be as free and fair as possible so we want to catch vote riggers in the act. You can help too, because for all Zimbabweans, our peaceful and happy future depends on a legitimate outcome to this election.

Make a difference in Zimbabwe - do it for your country and your family. Report the criminals who are helping to rig elections. You will be doing the right thing, and you may also get a REWARD of up to US$5000 for information leading to a successful prosecution.

Whistleblower Q & A

1. What type of information do you need?

Accurate, first hand, factual information including names, and, if possible,
witnesses (if any), location, time and date.

2. Do I need to collect evidence?

No, but the more comprehensive and believable the information, the better. Evidence could include copies or original letters or memos, affidavits, signed testimonies, or other verifiable official information. These can be mailed to our Post Box at The Hague or attached to the anonymous email.

3. I'm in the security services. Is it okay to report on my colleagues or other officers?

Yes. We know that most police officers want their honour and dignity restored. We know you may be afraid. We know you do not want to hurt your own family and friends.

You and your fellow security officers are trained professionals. You did not become a security official to then become a criminal or election thief. You don't want to risk jail by breaking Zimbabwean and international laws. It is your right to report anyone breaking the law, whoever it is. It is your right to protect yourself from those who order you to do the wrong thing.

4. How do I know I will get paid?

We make a solemn promise to pay the first 40 people who provide valuable, specific, reliable and verifiable information about vote rigging activities in Zimbabwe. We have no reason to lie to you, punish you or expose you. If we break a promise to you, we put ourselves at risk, too. We are professionals of honour and integrity just like you.

5. I don't have a bank account - will I still get paid?

Yes. We intend to pay in cash, after the election period. We will contact you via your ticket number and organize a way to pay you safely.

6. Will I still get paid even if there is no conviction?

Yes. Convictions may take a long time. We intend to pay all eligible recipients as soon as possible. Payment will be logistically possible, however, only after the 29 March election and any run-off election.

7. Will only the first 40 people be rewarded?

Yes. This means you must please provide information as soon as possible so not to miss out. On this website we will announce when the 40-person cap of people providing valuable information has been reached. Remember reward decisions will be determined based on the accuracy and verifiability of what you send.

Warning: please do waste our time by sending unsubstantiated rumours or unreliable second-hand information. We will not be fooled. This is not a game.

8. What guarantees do I have that I will remain anonymous?

- Pseudonym: You are welcome to communicate with us using only a pseudonym (fake) name.

- Anonymous Email Address: Use a private email address that you can create on yahoo or hotmail. If you want to be extra careful, use that email address only to communicate with this website. Yahoo and hotmail addresses are easy to set up and are a generally secure way to communicate.

- Using Post: If you send documentary evidence to the address in The Hague, you do not need to put any identifying information on it, except for your ticket number.

- Ticket Number: Please do not forget to put your ticket number on any documents/evidence sent to the private post box. (This is how we identify whom to pay).

- Anonymity Guaranteed: We never have to know who you are. You can even get paid by sending another person to pick up the cash on your behalf. Of course, this method must be carefully arranged by anonymous email to protect you and ensure it is you who receives the funds. We would rather you come in person so you can be congratulated for your courage, honour and integrity.

9. If I give information to this website, how will it be kept secret?

Please note, we have not promised to keep the information you send to us secret. We have promised to keep your identity secret. We will, however, be very careful in protecting the source of any information.

There is no need to be nervous about whistle blowing. You are dealing with people who understand the repressive and dangerous situation in Zimbabwe. We are not politicians. Our aim is only to begin a genuine process to heal Zimbabwe, not harm it. Let's all work together to create a better and brighter future for all Zimbabweans. Rigged elections will not bring a brighter future for any of us!

This is a non-partisan initiative by concerned Zimbabweans to assist those who are committed to bringing back legitimacy and fair play into Zimbabwean electoral process regardless of their own political affiliation.
